ABOUT ME
My name is Mina Anadolu and I am a Ph.D. student in Neuroscience. I am running to continue my term as Internal Affairs Officer (IAO)!
-
I have been organizing and running events for PGSS since February 2015 as a member of the Internal Affairs Committee.
-
I worked with the past two IAOs, GeSa and Sahil, and learned a great deal about the Internal Affairs Portfolio, logistics of organizing events both in Thomson House and outside campus, and about engaging PGSS members in our functions.
-
In December 2015, I was elected as Interim IAO following the resignation of the previous officer. I have gained experience working with the current Executives, Commissioners, PGSS and Thomson House Staff.
Some of the new initiatives I organized this year are:
-
The Montreal Food Crawl during PostGraduate Orientation Week,
-
Healthy Lifestyle Night in collaboration with the Health and Wellness Committee,
-
International Board Games Night as part of I-Week with the collaboration of The McGill Gamers’ Guild, Randolph Gaming Pub and International Student Services (ISS).
All of these events have been received very well by our members and will be included in the portfolio for the upcoming year.

MY APPROACH
COLLABORATIONS
since December 2015 (3 months)

1) Increasing Collaborative Effort
-
Since being elected as IAO in December 2015, I have collaborated with over 15 clubs and services on campus. These collaborations have proven to be fruitful as they have increased participation of our members in PGSS functions and in campus life, and have drawn attention to the resources available to us at McGill.
-
I will multiply my collaborative efforts to increase the visibility and accessibility of clubs and services on campus and to ensure that there is something of interest to you at PGSS.
2) Fact/Feedback-Based Decision Making
-
During my term as IAO, PGSS collected data on all events through the use of anonymous feedback forms sent to participants. These forms provided us with important information regarding who our target audience is and what we can do to improve our events.
-
Apart from written feedback, I personally attended each in-house event in my portfolio, and spoke to participants face to face about their PGSS experiences.
-
During the 2016-2017 mandate, all decisions regarding the Internal Affairs Portfolio will be made based on the data provided by PGSS members and this data will be made public.
3) An Inclusive Events Portfolio
-
Graduate Students and Post-Doctoral Fellows of McGill are very diverse. The Internal Affairs Portfolio must reflect this diversity and ensure that all our members are well represented. This year’s events portfolio was more diverse than in the past years and I am determined to make this last.
-
I am currently working on implementing a structure to the events portfolio to ensure the sustainability of inclusive initiatives and to give future IAOs some guidelines on how to organize events that best represent the PGSS membership.
-
Each year the IAO will need to organize at least one event per semester which addresses each of the following: Equity and Diversity, Health and Wellness, Environment, Student Welfare, Family Care and Sustainable Thomson House. These categories will not limit the events portfolio but will protect the existence of inclusive initiatives, regardless of who gets elected. This measure will also make the Internal Affairs Committee accountable for what they do with their budget.

"Having worked with Mina over the past few months and seen her in action, organizing and running events for our students, I can say with full confidence that she is an ideal candidate for the job. She would be a great addition to our team!"
-Danielle Toccalino, PGSS Secretary-General

""I, Victor Frankel, fully support Mina Anadolu for Internal Affairs Officer. To this position, Mina brings both experience and passion. She has been an active member of the Internal Affairs Committee, leading the organization of successful events including the PGSS Food Crawl and the Healthy Lifestyle Night. She brings experience to the position, which is critical for navigating through the logistics of both PGSS and Thompson House. In addition to her experience, Mina brings passion and dedication to bringing the PGSS community together, for fostering relationships and a positive learning and living environment for PGSS students to get involved and engaged, both on campus and in the broader community.""
-Victor Frankel, Environment Commissioner
"Since taking on the position of Internal Affairs Officer of the PGSS, Mina’s dedication to the portfolio and its members has been incredible. From what I can see, her seamless transition into this role has ensured that the mandate from the previous IAO has been maintained while adding some of her own creativity and imagination to get it off the ground. Importantly, she values the diversity of the work within the portfolio and the diversity amongst PGSS members. Furthermore, she does her best to support them, as seen with the upcoming Peer Support Centre hours for PGSS members. I am excited to see Mina run for the Internal Affairs Officer position and look forward to seeing what she has in store for next year!"
